Our investment approach is about using data and evidence to understand, prioritise, and evaluate support for children, young people and families with the highest needs, both now and into the future.

It’s about investing early to improve long-term social outcomes for our most vulnerable populations and generate the greatest social return into the future.

We do this firstly by bringing together a large volume of data from NSW Government agencies about service use, which is then de-identified. Analysing this data set helps us to understand which population groups are most at risk of poor outcomes. Then, jointly with our government agency partners, we design service solutions or enhance existing supports for the benefit of these priority groups.

Supports are delivered by other government agencies or non-government organisations, and we monitor their results to ensure they are improving outcomes for the children and families who receive them.

Over time, this approach will help to redirect investment from crisis-driven services to early intervention and prevention strategies. The investment approach will also help to create a more cohesive and accountable system to support children and families in NSW.
