NSW Stronger Communities Investment Coalition

The NSW Stronger Communities Investment Unit – Their Futures Matter has set itself an ambitious goal of redirecting the human service system more towards prevention and early intervention.

The Minister for Families, Communities and Disability Services, The Hon. Gareth Ward, is calling for suitably experienced peak, sector and industry champions to express their interest to work alongside government representatives from the Human Services agencies, Stronger Communities Investment Unit, Treasury and DPC and participate in the Stronger Communities Investment Coalition.

The NSW Stronger Communities Investment Coalition will draw on a diverse range of government and non-government expertise to advise on the development and delivery of improved outcomes for vulnerable children and their families in NSW by prioritising early intervention.

The NSW Stronger Communities Investment Coalition will work across traditional boundaries and use its influence to maximise financial investment, reduce duplication and guide cross-sector resources to advise on the implementation of the investment and commissioning approach for identified priority populations.

The Minister will appoint one representative in the following key focus areas to participate in the Stronger Communities Investment Coalition.

The key focus areas are:

  • Early years and education
  • Monitoring and evaluating outcomes
  • Community based commissioning
  • Investment approach (to welfare)
  • Social Investor
  • Aboriginal thought leader
  • Child and Family Health

Expression of Interest Process - deadline for submissions was Friday 26 July

Members of the NSW Stronger Communities Investment Coalition will be required to:

  • commit to membership for a period of 12 months
  • commit to actively participating in quarterly meetings, supported by an Independent Chair
  • contribute to agenda item discussions
  • declare any conflict of interest
  • hold and share high level industry and sector knowledge
  • demonstrate vision, foresight and ability to identify strategic alignment opportunities
  • use their influence to leverage cross-sector support for the Their Futures Matter reform

The distinctive contribution of each sector is key to overall success of the Coalition.

Government Members

  • Lead the investment and commissioning approach
  • Advise on approach for funding and resource allocation
  • Design investment plans
  • Identify and commission service interventions
  • Monitor and evaluate effectiveness
  • Identify risk and issues mitigation strategies
  • Ensure responsive and accountable government to improve the outcomes for specific population groups identified for prioritisation.

Non-Government Partners and Non-Government Organisations

  • Provide advice to government on the operation of the investment and commissioning approach
  • Influence the design of investment plans
  • Provide advice on the commissioning of service interventions and their effectiveness
  • Provide advice to government on potential mitigation strategies for identified risks and issues
  • Share insights, research, knowledge and experience to contribute to informed discussions
